Bert
Our boy Bert has had quite the week! One of our directors had some family in town from Vancouver and they wanted to stop by and see the kitties (obviously), when Cathryn met Bert she instantly fell in love. Over the next couple of days they spent more and more time together at KC, she started contemplating adoption. It was not a decision made lightly due to the travel involved. After some consultation with our veterinarian, her family back home and confirming that he could come in the plane cabin with her, she decided to take him back home to BC!

Soon Bert was all set up in his carrier and ready to head to the big city. After spending a few hours in the Saskatoon airport where he got to explore some bathrooms, he boarded his very first flight and was a champ through the whole experience. We kept in close contact during his travels and the recurring theme was “he’s so chill!” We are so glad Bert had a safe and relaxing journey and know he will live a life of pure luxury with his new roomy Charlie.

Maybelline
What a difference a few months makes!
Maybelline is doing very well in her home. She's still not using her leg as much as we would like but it certainly doesn't slow her down! Thanks to everyone for your donations toward her surgery and recovery. Because of you, we can continue to rescue stray and injured cats and find them loving homes.

Harriet
This poor girl came from Luseland and on examination was found to have a solid lump in her abdomen. During surgery, our veterinarian discovered that it was a giant clump of hair! We are thinking it must be mouse hair as there were some bones in there as well. She had the hair removed and has since been adopted by a lovely family in Luseland.

Award and Donation!

Rosie (aka Beyoncé) - She's a Survivor!

Picture

Picture
We would like to introduce a very special kitten to our followers.
Meet Beyoncé (who has now been renamed Rosie by her adoptive family). She was found in an oil field by employees of OJ Pipelines and Enbridge Pipelines, they promptly rushed her to Border Vet Clinic in Provost. The workers named her Beyonce because they knew she would be a survivor. Upon arrival to the clinic, it was discovered that she had a broken jaw as well as a sunken eye. She was very underweight and was in need of immediate medical care.
Our veterinarian bonded her canines together to try to stabilize her jaw so it could heal. This meant that she could only stick her tongue out of her mouth a bit and couldn't chew or open or close her mouth. After about a week of this, she started to bleed from the mouth. It was discovered that she had developed an ulcer on her tongue, our veterinarian then opened her jaw, treated the ulcer and re-bonded her jaw again. She stayed with a volunteer being syringe fed as well as receiving multiple medications a day. She was also getting a bath almost every night because of the mess made when she tried to eat. The person she stayed with kept telling her that if she could hold on, she would soon be able to have treats and eat real food.
Her sunken eye had to wait to be removed until her jaw could be opened enough to intubate her for surgery. In the meantime, she had eye treatments multiple times a day to help with pain and discharge.
Eventually, she was able to have her jaw released, this meant that she could go into surgery to have her eye removed and be spayed. The eye had to be removed as it was beyond saving and was only causing her trouble and pain. During the healing process of her eye removal, there were some scary episodes where she was bleeding from it. Our vet determined that this was simply a blood clot breakdown and a normal part of the process.
There were a few moments where we weren't sure if she was going to make it. We wanted to share her story to show that among all the abuse stories, there are always kind people out there.
Enbridge Pipelines and OJ Pipelines have been generously donating toward her vet bills, which as you can imagine, are extensive. We appreciate their support and the kindness they have shown this kitten.
We are happy to report that the person that fostered her from the beginning, has decided to adopt her. Her name is now Rosie and she is fitting in well with the resident cat and dog. She plays like a kitten should, knocking stuff over, chasing everything around. She is gaining weight quickly and her eye has healed. However, even after having her jaw opened, she still has very limited movement and can only open it about a centimeter. We are still working on helping her gain mobility in her mouth so she can eat properly. We are hoping to consult with specialists to see what can be done to help her from here.
There is so much that goes on behind the scenes at KC that we don't often post about. Some of it is heartbreaking and some of it is inspiring, like the strength that this kitten showed and the amazing people that brought her in.

Winnie & Waddles
Adopted October 2016
Meow! We have settled into our new home. We have been busy sunbathing, playing, watching birds out the windows and running through the house as fast as possible. And of course, getting all the snuggles and love we can. We are even learning to like the dog. Our new people love us and we are happy! We are forever grateful to everyone who loved us and took care of us for so many years until we found our forever home!
Love,
