KC Rescue is 100% volunteer operated so without our volunteers, we would be unable to do the work we do in the community. On this page you can find out more about our volunteers and why they love what they do! If you're interested in volunteering, please contact us

Dalyce
Dalyce has been volunteering with us for about a year now. She enjoys spending time with the cats and watching them interact with each other. Before volunteering with us, she had farm cats but has since adopted Simba from us! She is learning more about cats everyday and loves her time at the Rescue. The cats thank her for her dedication!

Megan Schweitzer
Megan has been volunteering with us for over 4 years! She loves spending time with the cats and meeting the new intakes. Her most memorable experience is chasing kittens around the building when they escaped!

We wouldn't be able to do what we do without the help of all our volunteers. Thanks so much Megan!

Connie
Meet Connie! She’s been volunteering with us for 2 years. Her favourite part of volunteering is the cuddle time with the cats. She has two indoor cats and two barn cats of her own. Her favourite memory is falling asleep to the sound of her old cat Mia purring in her lap. Mia passed away at 18 years old and is dearly missed.

Jim
Jim has been a volunteer with us for a year now and helps us with scoop, water, feed and some maintenance! He has three cats (one of which is our very own Rosetta) and two dogs. Thanks for volunteering Jim!

Carissa and Shelly

Carissa and Shelly have been volunteering together for about a year and a half now. You may have seen them helping out with our various fundraising events as well. Carissa's favorite cat has been Casper because of his hugs. Shelly's favorite was one of all of our favorites, Renae!

Pam
Pam has been travelling from Senlac weekly for the past four months to help out at KC! She has four cats of her own so of course her favourite part of volunteering with us is the cats. She also loves seeing the new cats bond with the current residents and seeing who makes friends with who. Thanks for your dedication Pamela!

Todd
Many of you have probably seen Todd around KC. He has been volunteering with us for many years and often helps out with open houses as well. He has become one of our most reliable volunteers and the cats absolutely love him

Jean and Judy

Jean and Judy have been volunteering with us since 2011 and come from Cut Knife once a month to volunteer together. Their favorite thing about volunteering at KC is the playtime with the cats.

Jean has one cat of her own and also fosters one of KC Rescue's cats named Sweet Pea.

Karen Oatway
Unity, SK

Karen recently moved back to Unity and got right in to   volunteering with KC Rescue. She has been volunteering with  us for about a year and she is especially good at giving cuddles and playing! She is unable to have cats where she currently lives so she visits with our residents daily and they love it!

PictureSheila (top) and Leone (bottom)
Sheila and Leone

Many of you will recognize Sheila and her mom from our open houses. Sheila started volunteering at KC Rescue in April 2007. Helping weekly with cleaning and the cats'/ kittens' daily care.

At the current location, Sheila and her mother Leone have also volunteered to oversee open house hours. The public then has an opportunity to come down and visit the resident cats & kittens. Many visitors have found furry friends to join their family thanks to the help of Sheila and Leone.

The open houses also give junior volunteers, who are too young to be at KC by themselves, a chance to get involved and help out as well.

We are so thankful to Sheila and Leone for all of their hard work and dedication!

PictureCourtney
Courtney Wells,
Senlac, SK

Courtney Wells from Senlac is our volunteer spotlight this week! When we have very young or sick kittens that need around the clock care, she is our go to foster mom! Read below to find out why she loves it so much!

"I fostered my first kitten in the summer of 2015. He was a pure black kitten who was ultimately adopted by my parents! I absolutely LOVE raising orphaned and abandoned neonate kittens. Even if it involves getting up every 2 hours to bottle feed and toilet a baby, I love every minute of it.

I have 4 cats. - One I consider my oldest "child" - my first cat as an adult, her name is Sola and she'll be 15 in August. - Two, is my "miracle cat" - his name is Hobo, and he took a ride in a car and disappeared for 2 months in an especially cold March, only to be found in an abandoned farmyard 10 miles from our house. He is so handsome, and loving and perfect and he'll be 9 this year. - Three is Sparkle, she was a foster "fail". I bottle raised her and her 3 sisters. She's super sassy and loves my 7-year-old the best. She'll be 4 in the fall. - Four is Gizmo. She's a KC foster fail that I fostered starting when she was about a week old. She's beautiful and full of attitude! She'll be 2 this fall.

I don't know if I can pick just one favorite experience...The most vivid recent one is when we got Hobo back. He was gone for 7 weeks, we had made missing posters (even though we had little hope in the country) and cried so many tears. When we received a phone call about a sighting at a farmyard I wouldn't let myself believe, and when my husband walked through the door with that cat in his arms, I absolutely lost it! And the look on my son's face when his best buddy came home was the BEST."

Volunteers like Courtney are a major asset to us at KC Rescue. Without the dedication and hard work from her, and all of our volunteers, we wouldn't be able to do what we do!
